MFA and login to the Politecnico

The Politecnico di Torino uses a single authentication system for the University's IT services, based on an Identity Provider (IDP). Through the portal idp.polito.it, users can manage their digital identity, change their password, and configure multi-factor authentication (MFA) systems.

The system also supports Single Sign-On (SSO), which allows access to various online services using a single set of credentials, simplifying the user experience while enhancing security.

Multi-factor authentication is:

  • Mandatory for teaching staff and University personnel
  • Optional for certain student services (see FAQs below), but strongly recommended to increase security levels.

 

  1. Visit the page idp.polito.it.
  2. Select “Access” to proceed with the login, if you are not already signed in.
  3. In the @Poli tab, enter your institutional credentials (name.surname@polito.it or name.surname@studenti.polito.it). You can also use CIE, SPID, Digital Certificate or the eIDAS credentials by selecting the corresponding tab. Link 
  4. If no MFA method is active, you will be prompted to set up a second authentication factor.
  5. If you choose to postpone, the system will ask you again during a future login.

  1. By clicking "Proceed", you can manage additional MFA methods. Selecting "Add authentication method" allows you to add other multi-factor authentication mechanisms.
  2. The MFA authentication system via SMS OTP is the first system you need to configure. The system offers to use the mobile phone number you already registered in MyPoli (if you are an employee) or on the Teaching Portal (if you are a student). If it is not present, or if you wish to change it, you can enter a different mobile phone number.
  3. You will receive a security code (One Time Password - OTP) via SMS, which you must type into the appropriate field.

It is strongly recommended to add another MFA method in addition to your mobile phone. There is no limit to the number of configured MFA methods, and they can be removed at any time.

Once authentication is complete, you will remain logged in on the device or browser used for 90 days.

Access from a New Device

If you log in from a new device or browser, you will be prompted for MFA authentication again.

Remember login

If you check the "DO NOT REMEMBER LOGIN" box during login, the system will mark the device as untrusted and require the second factor again at your next login. It is good practice to select this option when logging in from an untrusted device that you do not own (self-service or shared workstations, classroom or lab PCs, etc.).

Check network coverage and verify that the number entered is correct. If you are abroad in roaming, SMS delivery cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, we recommend activating more than one authentication factor. Alternatively, you can log in using SPID or CIE.

You can update your mobile number independently from the Teaching Portal or MyPoli.

Use the password recovery function on the IDP at idp.polito.it.

  • For teaching staff and University personnel, multi-factor authentication is mandatory to access services.
  • The student community can access services without MFA. In fact, for students, MFA is not compulsory for all services. However, if it has been activated by registering at least one authentication factor, it will be required to access the student app.
