Nextcloud for Research

What is it used for?

Nextcloud is a collaboration and data-sharing platform designed for teamwork. It uses the ITBox storage infrastructure as its backend, providing research groups with a secure environment to store, sync, and share files, accessible via web browser and desktop/mobile clients. Nextcloud is ideal when the main need is collaborating on files (including with partners outside Politecnico di Torino), but it is not intended for high-performance requirements, HPC integration, or direct application-level storage management.

Key features include:

  • Dedicated spaces for research groups and projects
  • Access via browser and desktop/mobile clients
  • Native integration with the ITBox storage infrastructure

Benefits

  • Simple and controlled sharing of research data
  • Collaboration among internal and external project members
  • Ideal for project documentation, shared datasets, and collaborative work
  • Data hosted on University infrastructure, in compliance with security and policy requirements
